The valley

Nestled in the Souleuvre basin, the valley where the viaduct stands is classified as a site Nature 2000. This 2,232 hectare perimeter protects a mosaic of natural habitats : alluvial forests, wet meadows, riparian forests and moorland areas coexist there and form a rich and fragile ecosystem.

The river

The Souleuvre River, dynamic and oxygenated, welcomes the Atlantic salmon, the bullhead or even the brook lamprey. Its shaded banks are favorable to the European otter, an emblematic species of preserved waterways. Many species of nesting birds can also be observed there, such as the European Kingfisher and the Black Woodpecker.

The site

The hedgerows, restored since 2003 as part of a local hedgerow reorganization, provide essential ecological corridors. This plant network makes the region ideal for observing the fauna of the Souleuvre Viaduct in all seasons.

The management of the site is entrusted to the CPIE of the Normandy hills, which leads long-term awareness-raising and protection actions.
